Take Note, Essence Fest Coming Soon — July 1-3, 2011

HEY MUSIC LOVERS!

Information on the Essence Musical Festival brought to you by Vincent Art in the French Quarter.

This Year’s 2011 Essence Festival

The Louisiana Superdome will once again rock to the greatest sounds in R&B, urban contemporary, soul, hip hop, jazz and more as internationally and locally renowned singers and musicians take the stage during the three-day Essence Music Festival this summer.

Started in the early 1990s and held in New Orleans every year since then (except 2006), the 18th Annual Essence Fest will take place from Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 3.

Essence Fest also includes three days of “Empowerment Seminars” featuring top go-getters in the business and entertainment world, including such big names as news anchor Soledad O’Brien, TV commentator Anderson Cooper, syndicated show host Steve Harvey, Rev. Al Sharpton, singer CeCe Winans, TV personality Tavis Smiley, marketing pioneer Tom Burrell, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, bestselling authors Iyanla Vanzant Cornel West and many more. African art, handicrafts, books, jewelry and more will also be on display and for sale during the festival.

When you come to the Essence Fest, stop by Vincent Art in the French Quarter and say “Hi” to the owner Rob Lombardi. We represent the best New Orleans artists and exclusive art works. We know New Orleans and would be glad to recommend the best “local favorites” instead of the typical tourist traps.

We look forward to see you soon,

Rob Lombardi and staff

Is Jimmy Buffett a Thief?

Jimmy Buffett a thief? Wait a moment you fellow Parrot Heads before you send the hate mail. Let me explain now that I have your undivided attention.  Did y’all know Jimmy got started as a street musician in New Orleans many years ago? Specifically, in the French Quarter?  No? And you call yourself a Parrot Head? Yes, you knew? Great, you must have attended the 2011 New Orleans Jazz Fest this year and talked to the great folks at Vincent Art who seemed to be the only people in New Orleans who knew what the Jimmy Buffett Jazz fest poster was all about! I guess the Vincent Art people take it serious since they are the only purveyor of New Orleans Art and feature only New Orleans artists. And boy can they do a great framing job on the poster. Absolutely, the best art framing in New Orleans and probably elsewhere.

JB1 Is Jimmy Buffett a Thief?

Jimmy Buffett Official Jazz Fest 2011 Poster

On with Jimmy Buffett being a thief, where sort of. Here is the story behind the 2011 Jazz Fest Poster featuring Jimmy Buffett. Take a good look at the picture to make my explanation easier to visualize.  Here we go:

-         The large image of Jimmy is from his earlier years, when he was in New Orleans. This is not a bad artist misconception of Jimmy today. Read on.

-         He is standing on the street corner of Conti and Chartres. The corner where he lived in the apartment building you see in the picture. The building is still there today.

-         Ah, the parrot in the picture. Hmmm, I will let you figure that one out.

-         The blue car in the picture is the one that Jimmy drove while living and playing in the French Quarter.

-         The old man, not that old, looking back at Jimmy? Well, that is the current Jimmy Buffett “looking back at his younger years”.  Pretty cool, huh? I love the idea and the theme to the image and bought the poster for mainly those reasons.

-         BUT wait, there is more. As the sign says near his feet, Jimmy did play for gumbo and if you can see it, check out the money box. Can you see what is in it besides the coins?  Check it out. I can’t give you everything.

-         Ah, now for the thievery part. See those newspapers that Jimmy has one foot on? Well, the rumor is that Jimmy use to go to newsstands in the early morning and put in one coin and pull out all the papers and sell them while he was playing on the street corner. Truth or lie? Well, the old timers I talked to in the French Quarter who remembered Jimmy say it was all true! But could not offer any proof. Hmm, maybe they should of known he would become famous one day and hold it against him. Is it true Jimmy stole newspapers to survive in the French Quarter? Did he need to do it because people didn’t like his singing and wouldn’t leave money for him so he had to sell them a newspaper? Say it ain’t true, please! Not our beloved Jimmy. He would never do that! Right and Jimmy doesn’t like Margaritas! I don’t know the truth and really don’t care all that much.  Jimmy wasn’t available for comment at Jazz Fest. The only person who knows is Jimmy. So, Jimmy if you are reading this, let us all know. And stop by the Vincent Art shop on Decatur where you can see some beautifully framed Jazz Fest posters of you. Jimmy, by the way, your buddy in Telluride says “Dude, what’s up? Call me sometime”.

So, is Jimmy a thief or not? Or who really cares? Or are there really Aliens in the White House? Say what? Anyway, go get your own framed 2011 Jazz Fest poster at Vincent Art web site online store and let us know what you think about Jimmy being a thief.  Don’t get to serious, remember we are just cave men in blue jeans!
